The Wheels Have Fallen Off

The Kids Still Need to Get to School

The Wheels Have Fallen Off image

Every morning before sunrise, these trucks barrel down long dusty roads through rural northern Cambodia, collecting students. These vehicles are not glamorous. They are dented, dusty, overworked beasts that spend their lives battling flood season, potholes, heat, mud, overloaded roads, and relentless rural travel.

And this week, one of them finally gave out.

On Monday morning, while heading out to collect students, one of our trucks suffered a major mechanical failure. The driver lost control, hit the side of a bridge, and ended up in a dusty ditch on the side of the road.

Thankfully, he walked away uninjured. Shaken, absolutely. But incredibly lucky it wasn’t far worse.

The truck, however, was not so lucky.

The repair bill is big. The work is urgent. And unfortunately, rural Cambodian roads do not care about our budget.

Without these trucks:

  • Students cannot reliably get to school
  • Attendance drops fast
  • Access to our Learning Center disappears
  • Kids miss meals, classes, workshops, and support
  • Some students simply stop continuing their education altogether

That is the reality of distance here.

Right now, we urgently need help to repair this vehicle and get it safely back on the road, where it belongs, collecting students before the sun rises.

Because the kids are still waiting. And school still starts at 7 am.
