Support hospitality workers' education
Join us and make a difference, please give today.
Due to the extraordinary impact the COVID crisis has had on tourism in Cambodia, specifically in Siem Reap, many hospitality workers in Temple Town who have been sponsored through University have lost their scholarships as various NGOs and social enterprises have been financially crippled by the economic impact of the pandemic.
The Ponheary Ly Foundation, promotes access to quality education for children and youth across Northern Cambodia. It currently supports 2,800 children from Grade K-University. Even through this crisis, they are maintaining their current University sponsorships, and are also are reaching out into the larger community to find “stranded students” and help them finish up their studies. The vast majority of those students are also hospitality workers.
The economic opportunities available to those who graduate from University can lift their entire family out of poverty in one generation.
In Cambodia, there are no student loans available nor any other structure to support University education. It is meant for the elite only, as the cost to send one student to University would be in many cases, the family’s entire annual income.
At SEEKERS we champion equal opportunities and strongly believe in the power of education to make lasting change. We want to raise money to help these students finish their studies. We want to help give voice and tools to those less fortunate, but who have much to contribute to the building of the country.
We are kick-starting our fundraising in Siem Reap, with a couple of events that are kindly being hosted by Miss Wong Cocktail Bar and Hok Noodle Bar + Grill, on the 14th & 15th August respectively. These events are also being supported by the Cambodia Beverage Company. Then over the coming months we will be donating $1 for every bottle sold through our retail partners in SR.
For those not in Siem Reap or unable to attend, but would still like to help, you can use the link here to donate. We know everyone is suffering at the moment and pennies are tight all-round, but every little helps & we look forward to raising a glass with you in the name of education, opportunity and hope.
